Airport Firefighter EMT - John Glenn International Airport, Columbus, Ohio

IMMEDIATELY HIRING! Full and Part-time Opportunities

Full-time: $52,383/average annual compensation

Part-time: $20,440/average annual compensation

Work Hours: Rotating 24-hour shifts, A-B-C Schedule

We are hiring Airport Firefighter EMTs passionate about firefighting and committed to fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.

Job Summary:

This role involves skilled firefighting work including combating, extinguishing, and preventing aircraft, structural, ground equipment, and other fires. Responsibilities include responding to emergency calls, operating and maintaining fire department equipment, and participating in rescue activities. Employees will learn and perform hazardous tasks under supervision, often in challenging conditions such as smoke and tight spaces. The majority of time is spent on routine maintenance, training, and studying firefighting methods, with specific orders from supervisors but requiring initiative and thorough understanding of firefighting techniques.

Position Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED; background check and drug screening required.
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications.
• NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification (State or IFSAC).
• NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials-Operations certification (State or IFSAC).
• NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter certification (State or IFSAC) or completion of FAA 40-hour course with current annual burn.
• Ohio State EMT certification at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record; DUI within last 5 years disqualifies.
• Pass FBI fingerprint-based criminal history check for security badge.

Examples of Responsibilities:

• Respond to aircraft, HAZMAT, structural, and EMS incidents at John Glenn International Airport, determining response methods.
• Provide EMS at medical emergencies involving airport personnel and patrons, removing victims safely within safety limits.
• Maintain station apparatus and equipment in ready condition.
• Complete vehicle and equipment inspections regularly.
• Inspect buildings, fueling facilities, and vehicles for fire safety hazards.
• Complete reports promptly and accurately.
• Implement and respond to the Airport Emergency Plan.
• Attend training and train other staff and tenants as needed.
• Respond to dispatched calls on and off airport property.
• Drive emergency vehicles, operate warning devices, and respond to radio communications safely.
• Ensure safe arrival of crew and apparatus at emergency scenes.
• Conduct fire prevention classes and inspections during shifts.
• Control access to airport property as needed.
• Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, including emergency situations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
