Job summary

The Maryland Aviation Administration, part of the Maryland Department of Transportation, seeks an Airport Assistant Fire Marshal for the Airport Fire & Rescue Department at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). The role focuses on protecting the public through research, inspections, and code enforcement to minimize fire hazards.

Work is outdoors at the airport and at response locations, with exposure to high noise levels.

Responsibilities

• Assist in enforcing fire and life safety codes at BWI and state levels.
• Review plans and modifications through the plan review process.
• Assist in the management of the code enforcement program for the Airport Fire & Rescue Department.
• Inspect fuel farms, fuel trucks and fueling operations for FAR compliance.
• Issue written violations for life safety and fire code violations.
• Inspect, evaluate, test and document fire protection systems and fire alarm systems.
• Investigate, document, and resolve complaints on fire and life safety issues.
• Conduct field inspections of existing facilities for fire and life safety violations.
• Issuing permits in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
• Conducting a review of shop drawings for fire protection and fire alarm systems and preparing correspondence.
• Performing inspections of fuel farms, fuel trucks, and fueling operations for FAR compliance and agency procedures.
