Job summary

Job description

Position Purpose:

Guides successful completion of major engineering programs, or conceives research in areas of considerable scope and complexity supporting the development and production of Gulfstream products and services.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions:

1. Selects appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues.
2. Is consulted extensively by associates and others as a recognized authority within the field.
3. Anticipates and resolves complex issues in creative and effective ways, developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
4. Approach to problem solving balances technical product, cost and schedule.
5. Works without appreciable direction; work is reviewed from a long-range perspective for desired results.
6. Exercises latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, and makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative.

Additional Functions:

1. Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields in order to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company product. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or technical related curriculum applicable to the respective job position required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 10 yrs in specific technical discipline or 15 yrs broad eng experience in several technical disciplines with Bachelors. Experience credit considered for related adv degrees limited to 2 yrs for Masters and 4 yrs for PhD in fields applicable to this job.

2. The Airframe Structural Design Engineering team develops and sustains the structural definition of all large cabin Luxury private corporate aircraft, supporting both new product development and ongoing improvements to the existing fleet. Our core mission is to deliver safe, efficient, high?quality designs that are manufacturing?ready, on schedule, and within budget while supporting manufacturing, service teams, and customers. Structural design engineers define the form, fit, and function of airframe parts and assemblies, integrate systems, and select appropriate materials, processes, and finishes using modern CAD and PLM tools.
3. This job is for placement in either Special Missions team where current Luxury, oprivate, corporate aircraft are modified for special use or in Core team where sustaining engineering is performed. Open to US Persons only (US citizens or permanent residents).

Qualified candidates will have:

• Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft structural design and certification principles, including loads development, structural substantiation, durability, damage tolerance, fatigue, and corrosion prevention.
• Demonstrated expertise in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), producibility, maintainability, cost optimization, and development of cost-effective design solutions.
• Advanced proficiency in 3D Model Based Definition (MBD), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering release processes, and configuration management.
• Extensive experience using CATIA V5 (or equivalent 3D CAD systems) to develop, document, and release primary and secondary aircraft structural designs.
• Proven ability to lead structural design projects through the complete product lifecycle, including concept development, certification, release, manufacturing support, installation, and entry into service.
• Demonstrated success collaborating with Stress, Materials & Processes, Certification, Manufacturing, Procurement, Suppliers, and other cross-functional organizations to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
• Ability to serve as a technical focal for structural design activities, establish work plans, prioritize assignments, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Preferred candidates will also have:

• Experience developing structural modifications for FAA, EASA, military, or other certified aircraft platforms, including metallic and composite structures.
• Experience supporting aircraft modification, derivative, Special Missions, completions, certification, or sustaining engineering programs.

The candidate will be ultimately responsible for producing high quality designs, ready for manufacturing, on time, at the right cost by:

• Employing all Structural Design core competencies to develop structural definition of the aircraft.
• Engaging various engineering, manufacturing, program, and customer support teams to complete designs.
• Participating in design reviews.
• Participating in aircraft build support.
• Interacting with suppliers and preparing technical coordination memos.
• Preparing engineering reports.
• Documenting, tracking, and managing design projects of various magnitude using online knowledgebases and tracking tools.
• Developing and capturing lessons learned, standard work, and best practices to improve future program execution.
• Experience integrating aircraft systems, mission equipment, interiors, customer-specific installations, or other structural modifications into certified aircraft platforms.
• Prior Gulfstream aircraft design experience, including familiarity with Gulfstream design standards, specifications, and release processes.
• Experience supporting aircraft installation activities, liaison engineering, MRB dispositions, manufacturing troubleshooting, and fleet support.
• Proficiency with CATIA V5 applications including Part Design, Assembly Design, Sheet Metal, Functional Tolerancing & Annotation (FTA), Composite Part Design (CPD), and Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE).
• Experience with Teamcenter, ENOVIA, SmarTeam, or equivalent Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Experience preparing certification documentation, engineering reports, technical coordination memorandums, compliance data packages, and customer-facing technical presentations.
