Job summary

City of Elkhart in Elkhart, IN seeks an Airfield Maintenance Technician to oversee all airfield maintenance, safety areas, lighting, and related duties. You will perform daily inspections, manage snow/ice removal, and ensure security while coordinating with AMS and Airport Department Head.

Experience with FAA rules and heavy equipment, plus a CDL within 180 days, is preferred. The role requires independent work and occasional night/weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of FAA regulations for airport operations preferred.
• Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment safely.
• Technical proficiency in carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work.
• Must obtain CDL within 180 days of hire; airport driver training may be required.
• Proficient in Windows, Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily airfield inspections and log results.
• Remove snow and ice from all airport surfaces safely and efficiently.
• Maintain airport security at all times.
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions promptly.
• Issue NOTAMs through ATC or FSS when needed.
• Coordinate access to the Airport Operating Area and escort during activities.
• Perform general maintenance on facilities, roads, infrastructure, and grounds.
• Manage general and preventative maintenance on City-owned equipment.
