Job summary

City of Abilene is seeking an Airport Maintenance Specialist I/II to maintain airfield facilities in compliance with FAR Part 139 and 14 CFR Part 1542. You will inspect, repair, and document critical infrastructure, and respond to after-hours calls while maintaining strict safety standards.

The role requires outdoor work in varying conditions, flightline awareness, and coordination with Air Traffic Control and security systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of related facilities/airfield maintenance experience or equivalent.
• Must obtain Airfield Movement Area Driver certification within six months of hire.
• Must pass security background check and an airfield driving test.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair airfield lighting systems and signage.
• Perform pavement maintenance including crack sealing and patching.
• Maintain perimeter security systems and access control infrastructure.
• Service parking control and revenue systems.
• Perform general building/grounds upkeep and minor plumbing/electrical work.
• Operate and maintain airport vehicles and equipment; conduct preventive maintenance.
• Support wildlife hazard management and snow/ice control as needed.
• Accurately recordkeeping and reporting to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
