Job summary

Gulfstream Aerospace is seeking an Aircraft Painter Apprentice at our Savannah, GA location. This is a multi-year program designed to develop skills toward becoming a fully proficient aircraft painter.

The apprentice will work alongside experienced technicians to learn surface preparation, priming, and topcoat application. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and paint experience in a technical setting; the role requires passing safety tests and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Paint experience in a technical environment or trade school is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and painting of aircraft exterior surfaces.
• Apply primer and topcoat; mask windows and areas as needed.
• Assist with corrosion preventive materials and sanding/priming prep.
• Follow safety, housekeeping, and PPE requirements; maintain tools and equipment.
• Read and interpret instructions; pass required health and safety tests.

Education and Experience Requirements

Position Purpose:The Aircraft Paint Apprentice works along side higher level employees to assist with the preparation ad painting of the Aircraft. The Apprentice will participate in a multi-year program in order to develop the skills necessary to perform as a fully proficient completions painter.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:Essential Functions:

1. Assists in the preparation of the exterior surfaces of aircraft for application of primer and topcoat. Use various masking materials to protect windows, external probes, antennas, and other required. areas. Sand and wash the aircraft surface as directed. .
2. Assist with and applies corrosion preventative materials to the aircraft.
3. Apply primer and sanding surfacer to aircraft.
4. Uses tools to sand primer and sanding surfacer in preparation for base coat.
5. Comply with all safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies. Use personal protective equipment as required. Use (PTP) to ensure aircraft interior is protected. .

Additional Functions:

1. Properly care for shop equipment and tools as assigned. .
2. Comply with Paint shop standard practices. .

Perform other duties as assigned.Other Requirements:

1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English Language.
2. Ability to read and interpret instructions.
3. Able to pass the Pulmonary Function Test to obtain respirator certification.
4. Ability to use tools, equipment and materials in the aircraft painting process.
5. Able to climb ladders and stairs, perform close tolerance work, work in small spaces, able to use air power towels and able to lift up to 60 pounds.
6. Ability to work at heights.
7. Must have a valid driving license.
8. Must be able to work any shift.

This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
