AIRCRAFT PAINTER

Aerospace Coatings & Advanced Finishes

Mesa, AZ

$19.99 - $24.99/Hour

We are seeking a Senior Aircraft Painter with experience applying advanced aerospace coating systems, specialty finishes, and multi-stage paint applications on aircraft structures and components. This role supports aviation manufacturing and maintenance operations through expert surface preparation, paint application, color matching, quality inspections, and compliance with FAA, environmental, and company standards.

Responsibilities
  • Apply complex aerospace paint systems, including metallic, high-gloss, specialty, multi-coat, and clear-coat finishes on aircraft structures and components.
  • Prepare surfaces to specification through sanding, masking, taping, cleaning, priming, and coating application processes.
  • Operate and maintain advanced spray equipment, including HVLP and air-assisted spray systems, while following all safety procedures.
  • Perform detailed touch-ups, refinishing, blending, and feathering techniques to restore finish quality and ensure appearance consistency.
  • Accurately mix paints, colors, and tints while achieving required color, gloss, texture, and film-thickness specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, engineering work orders, paint specifications, safety data sheets (SDS/MSDS), and manufacturing process documentation.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections to verify compliance with FAA requirements, quality standards, and customer acceptance criteria.
  • Document painting activities, inspections, and quality control results in accordance with company procedures.
  • Troubleshoot paint application issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve quality and reduce defects.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to environmental, hazardous material handling, storage, and disposal requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and process optimization.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less-experienced painters as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of aircraft painting experience, including application of advanced aerospace coatings and specialty finishes.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing, painting, refinishing, and inspecting aircraft structures and components.
  • Proficiency with HVLP spray systems, air-assisted spray equipment, paint mixing systems, and coating application tools.
  • Experience using wet-film thickness gauges, dry-film thickness (DFT) gauges, and other paint inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Strong understanding of paint chemistry, curing processes, and environmental factors affecting coating performance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of aviation painting standards, quality inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot painting defects and independently resolve process-related issues.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or leading junior painters.
  • Ability to work in aircraft manufacturing, maintenance, repair, or overhaul (MRO) environments.
  • Ability to stand, climb, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.
  • Ability to lift and handle painting materials and equipment in accordance with company requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical certificate in coatings technology, industrial painting, aerospace coatings, or a related field.
  • Additional experience with advanced aerospace paint systems, specialty coatings, or OEM aircraft finishing processes.
  • Experience performing quality inspections and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within aerospace manufacturing or MRO environments.
