Help Duties

Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-12

As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-12, you will manage, monitor, or perform maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation for high-performance military aircraft. Ensure that Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflect the status and airworthiness of the aircraft. Clear Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others. Plan, develop, and conduct proficiency training during the technician work week for a workforce comprising Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel. Prepare for and participate in readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization, and support exercises.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment
  • National Guard membership is required. Contact a recruiter if unsure about eligibility.
  • This is an excepted service position requiring membership in a compatible military assignment prior to employment.
  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of this position constitutes agreement with all requirements.
  • Applicants not currently in the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Background investigation required for federal employment suitability.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (E1 to E7)

Qualified candidates will have:

  • At least three years of experience or training in troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, inspecting, and modifying aircraft and related equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft systems in electrical, fuel, hydraulic, environmental, and mechanical principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical orders, maintenance regulations, and procedures.
  • Eligibility for security clearance.
  • Possibility of qualifying for NGB Non-Aviator Flying Status and Class III flying duties.
Minimum Requirements

Skill in removing and replacing aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and making adjustments per specifications. Skilled in hand tools and test equipment.

Specialized Experience (3 years required)

Experience or training in installing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and testing mechanical and pneudraulic systems on aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating work and scheduling maintenance.
