Job summary

M1 Support Services is seeking a Senior Aircraft Mechanic to coordinate maintenance on T-6 and T-38 aircraft. You will work with mechanics, the lead, and supervisors to return aircraft to mission-capable status.

The role requires extensive maintenance knowledge, the ability to supervise in the lead's absence, and adherence to technical data and safety guidelines. This position is based at Sheppard AFB and starts on 09/28/2026.

Qualifications

• Two years of applicable aircraft maintenance experience on current aircraft.
• Ability to read and comprehend written/verbal orders and directives.
• Good verbal and written communication and leadership ability.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting on aircraft systems.
• Inform lead of discrepancies and schedule required support.
• Ensure use of technical data and complete records per USAF and company directives.
• Perform checks on T-6/T-38 controls, engines and related systems.

Job Summary

Coordinates maintenance efforts with other mechanics, the lead person and supervisory personnel to ensure the timely return of aircraft to mission-capable status. Applies senior level expertise in the maintenance of T-6, and T-38 aircraft. Assists the lead person in supervising the maintenance activities of assigned personnel.

Primary responsibilities

• Performs inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting tasks on aircraft systems and components.


• Informs the lead person of discrepancies, repairs and possible delays. Requests and schedules specialist support as necessary.


• Ensures the use of technical data in all aspects of aircraft maintenance.


• Completes and ensures completion of all necessary manual and automated records required by USAF and company directives.


• Performs operations, functional and rig checks on T-6, and T-38 flight controls, landing gear and throttle control systems as required. Also performs run and trim and operational checks of J85, & PT6A engines as necessary.


• Removes and replaces engines as necessary.


• Within qualifications conducts inspections of aircraft and system maintenance to ensure quality and completeness.


• Operates ground support equipment and uses the special tools/fixtures applicable to maintenance of the assigned aircraft.


• Performs all aircraft servicing and inspection tasks necessary to return aircraft to mission-capable status.


• Participates in and ensures compliance with established FOD prevention, housekeeping, tool control, environmental and safety programs.


• Researches and requisitions parts and components and determines the repair ability and serviceability of parts and components.


• Coordinates maintenance activities with Maintenance Control functional. Keeps Maintenance Control informed of aircraft status and mission progression.


• Reviews aircraft records to ensure that required maintenance has been performed, that hourly and calendar tracked events are current and that all associated documentation has been completed.


• In coordination with the section supervisor and the training specialist provides on-the-job training of new employees.


• Assists and instructs less skilled personnel in correct procedures.


• Assists section lead and in his/her absence performs the duties of the lead as required.


• Follows technical data, manuals, regulations, and other maintenance directives as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.


• Participates in towing and movement of aircraft in performing maintenance activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• An in-depth knowledge of the assigned aircraft is required. A thorough working knowledge of applicable technical publications is required.


• Completion of high school or equivalent. The ability to read and write .and comprehend written and/or verbal orders, instructions and directives is required.


• A minimum of two (2) years of applicable aircraft maintenance experience on the current/specific aircraft the individual is qualified to perform maintenance on. Fuel Cell Senior requires a minimum of two (2) years' aircraft fuel system maintenance.


• Good verbal and written skills and leadership ability are required.


• For personnel working in fuel cell maintenance a physical is required, must be able to enter the smallest cell opening, must be able to become qualified and use a respirator.


• Must be able to lift a minimum weight of 50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods of time, and have the ability to climb ladders and stairs.


• Normal color vision is required.


• Possession of a valid driver's license is necessary to obtain flight line driving privileges.

Working Conditions

Environment ranges from office-like to hangar and flight line. Extensive sitting to climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands.
