Job description

Summary:Does required maintenance and pilots aircraft that applies chemical insecticide by means of aerial spraying in order to provide effective mosquito control in Jefferson County, Texas.Essential Job Functions: Does preflight check of aircraft to be flown; receives instructions from Chief Pilot regarding spray operations and area to be sprayed; checks weather and wind to determine if conditions are suitable for spraying; coordinates loading of chemicals; insures that aircraft are properly loaded and meet weight and balance limits as specified by flight manuals and F.A.A. Rules; coordinates flights with Jefferson County Control Tower - home base; performs aircraft maintenance including 100 hour and annual inspections during winter months. Maintains and flies Cessna 188B Agwagon, Thrush 510P2, and/or Beechcraft 65A-90 twin engine planes to do aerial spraying in the Beaumont, Texas area. Checks aircraft after daily flights to insure it is prepared for the next flight, inspects aircraft for mechanical defects; makes sure plane is washed by ground crew and Mechanic performs any necessary repairs. Completes all reports, logs, and spray maps required by the E.P.A., F.A.A., insurance company and the county; maintains personal log of flight times, spray areas, etc.; assists Chief Pilot with monthly operations and budget reports. Attends F.A.A. sponsored aviation safety seminars at the Airport; attends monthly F.A.A. meetings with Chief Pilot to confirm that all aircraft records, flight logs, pilot certificates, and other requirements are in compliance with all F.A.A. regulations. Assists Chief Pilot with annual revisions of aerial spray maps and makes observation flights. Complies with all applicable F.A.A., E.P.A. and insurance company regulations and requirements; stays current with all regulations. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Taildragger experience preferred.

Specialized Requirements: A&P Mechanic License required - IA preferred. F.A.A. Commercial Pilot Certificate; Single and Multi-Engine Certificates preferred. Must pass F.A.A. required physical evaluations. Must satisfy all flight time and agriculture spray time experience minimums required by Jefferson County insurance policy. Must have valid Texas Drivers License.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Good verbal and written communication skills, math calculation skills; ability to interact and cooperate with co-workers; analytical skills; ability to safely pilot a plane and operate aerial spray equipment.

Work Situations/Demands/Efforts: Must be able to work 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (overtime required).Work requires organizing, prioritizing; attention to detail; accuracy; working alone while flying; flexibility in order to perform a variety of tasks and to adapt standard procedures to differing conditions; performing routine, repetitive duties; occasional irregular hours (early morning, late evening) due to aircraft scheduling; occasional out of town travel for continuing education. Flexibility required in order to perform a variety of tasks.

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an aircraft and outside and in a hangar. Employee is subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity, and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; physical hazards and safety hazards (flying an airplane); adverse atmospheric conditions from dust, fumes, and chemicals. Clerical functions are performed in a climate controlled office environment.

Physical Requirements: Job duties require occasional medium work, such as lifting or moving aircraft parts; moving aircraft in and out of hangars; reaching to open and close hangar doors; climbing and balancing on aircraft wings and noses; prolonged sitting (while flying a plane); high degree of stamina. Duties require appropriate safety precautions.
