Aircraft Mechanic III (LUH72) A&P performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications of aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of varying difficulty. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts. The role requires applying technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and solve complex problems by interpreting technical data like blueprints and manufacturer manuals.
The position requires comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical troubleshooting, repair procedures, and component replacement. It also involves sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs, and understanding of complex electrical systems. The mechanic must be familiar with aircraft-specific tools and equipment, and capable of making detailed logbook entries and maintaining aircraft records.
Additional duties include conducting various inspections (preflight, post-flight, phase), launching and recovering aircraft, operational checks, and ensuring aircraft cleanliness and safety. The role involves operating ground support equipment, performing ground movements, and working in various shifts, including nights and weekends. Safety practices, tool control, and FOD awareness are essential.
Qualifications include a valid up-to-date FAA A&P license, at least five years of aviation maintenance experience (including two on the LUH-72 MDS), with recent experience within the last ten years. Candidates must meet FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance, possess knowledge of electrical systems, and have experience with aircraft tools and safety procedures. A driver’s license and a high school diploma or equivalent are required. Mechanics must provide their own tools, which must be etched with their PID.
