Job summary

Amentum in Maryland is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic III to support HQ USAF plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members and dignitaries. You will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft components and systems, diagnose issues, and ensure aircraft readiness.

You will inspect, test, and operate ground support equipment, document actions in IMDS, and work across shifts as needed. FAA A&P certification and the ability to obtain a security clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • FAA A&P certificate required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • US citizenship required to obtain clearance.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Flightline driver's license required.
  • Three years’ maintenance experience preferred.

Job description

The Aircraft Mechanic III is responsible for support of highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for support of highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for cabinet members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications, and structural work on aircraft components, engines, flight controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints and manufacturer's manuals.
  • Work typically requires a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, and the ability to determine the functionality of complex electrical systems.
  • Accomplishes inspections including preflight, thru‑flight, basic post‑flight, and phase inspections.
  • Launches and recovers aircraft as required, performs operational checks of all aircraft systems, and maintains aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
  • Operates all associated ground support equipment and uses hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft. Performs all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
  • Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms and completes associated IMDS entries.
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness and prevention, and safety at all times.
  • Performs other duties related to the occupational field as assigned, including TDY and travel.
  • Must be able to work day shift, second shift, night shift, and/or weekend shift as required.
  • Become proficient to perform maintenance in three classifications (aircraft general, jet engines, and pneudraulics) through Cross Utilization Training (CUT).
Minimum Requirements:
  • Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment is required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and know how to operate portable firefighting equipment.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications is required.
  • Must possess an FAA A&P certificate.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. US Citizenship is required to obtain the clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a flightline driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three years’ working knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations is preferred.
