Responsibilities

Aircraft Mechanic II (SMM) personnel shall perform a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties including, but not limited to, disassemble, modify, repair, and reassemble complex aircraft metal items and systems, e.g., bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, wings, flaps, pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets, and fuel tanks. These items and systems have combined straight and curved edges and irregular curves and planes. A Sheet Metal Mechanic personnel shall analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal systems and items; develop patterns using a combination of parallel and radial line development; fabricate, install, and repair a variety of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals, e.g., stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, aluminum; replace sections and patch old systems; cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items that have numerous irregular angles, planes, and curves with varying pitch and circumference; use a variety of assembly joints, complex fastening systems, riveted or welded joints, drill or punch holes; and assemble or repair items by seaming, soldering, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, and spot welding. Assembly methods shall meet appearance and strength standards, as well as critical tolerances. As a condition of employment, Contractor personnel will be required to pass a FRCSW administered certification skills examination. Contractor personnel shall use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap ring, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points, and sine bars.

  • Perform Depot Level Maintenance on H-60 aircraft metal and composite parts.
  • Must be able to perform all duties associated with the Depot Level repair of H-60 aircraft components, to include propeller repair.
  • Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate to complex difficulty, including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatic, fuel systems and mechanical components.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and discrepancies.
  • Applies required expertise in restoring aircraft component condition and or operation.
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, Local Engineering Instructions, and work orders in manufacturing aircraft sheet metal structures.
  • Manufactures and installs new parts and reinforcing, patching, and replacing defective parts, applies accurate riveting techniques for proper spacing, fit, durability, structural soundness, and appearance.
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain qualifications in Advance Skills Management, attend or complete online mandatory training.
  • Assist in maintaining NAMP Programs, follows Ground Operating Procedures, and ensure compliance with established safety procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education/Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum experience or military experience as airframes technician on H-60 aircraft or any vertical lift aircraft of the US Navy or Marine Corps.
    • Experience as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic on any commercial aircraft.
    • A&P Certification with experience as sheet metal mechanic.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Security Clearance
    • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data system.
    • Must be a US Citizen.
    • Must be able to pass a NACI which could include a credit check.

      • To be able to perform research, a working knowledge with the following is preferred: electronic publications like Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM), knowledge in navigating NATEC website to access Technical Publications, service bulletins, technical publications, blueprints, IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown), MIM (Maintenance Instruction), LES (Local Engineering Specifications), LPS (Local Process Specifications) and TEI (Temporary Engineering Instructions).
    • Business Partner/Effective Communicator:
      • English language skills to communicate with customers.
      • Strong communicator must be able to communicate clearly both in writing and orally.
      • Ability to train others.
      • Customer service oriented, detail focused, pro-active behavior, multi-task capability.
