Aircraft Mechanic II (AH-64) Fort Riley KS
The Aircraft Mechanic II (AH-64 Specialty) maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty.
- Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.
- Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies such as engines, rotors, transmissions, and flight controls.
- Uses technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions.
- Restores equipment condition and operation using technical expertise.
- Interprets technical documentation like manuals, blueprints, and maintenance messages to solve problems.
- Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
- Prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
- Performs scheduled and special inspections, operational checks, and troubleshooting.
- Uses and maintains tools and ground support equipment.
- Performs additional duties as needed.
- Requires thorough knowledge of troubleshooting, repair procedures, and parts replacement, including sheet metal and structural modifications, electrical theory, and aircraft tools.
- Receives guidance from supervisors and may lead teams on complex tasks; records maintenance activities.
- Prioritizes workload to meet schedules.
- Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks.
- Must have at least three years of aviation maintenance experience, including three years on rotary wing aircraft and two years on the AH-64 MDS, all within the last six years.
- Experience should include inspection and repair of engines, sheet metal, hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of aircraft troubleshooting, technical manuals, and tools is required.
- A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must meet FAA requirements if working on FAA-certified aircraft.
- Must provide own tools, marked with PID.
- Requires a Driver’s License and a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Clearance and Physical Requirements:
- Must obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance and facility credentials.
- U.S. Citizenship required for facility credentials.
- Frequently lifts up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Work may be inside hangars or outside, in various weather conditions.
- Requires standing, handling, talking, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, climbing, and balancing.
- May be exposed to noise, fumes, electrical hazards, and mechanical parts.
