Aircraft Mechanic I (UH-60) Fort Riley KS
The Aircraft Mechanic I (UH-60 Mechanic Specialty) troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
- Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
- Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Performs various inspections including 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections. Examines reciprocating engines for cracks and oil leaks, listens to operating engines to diagnose malfunctions, inspects jet engines and components for damage, corrosion, and wear, and tests engine operation using specialized equipment.
- Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine gearboxes. Removes engines, disassembles, inspects, repairs, and reassembles them for installation.
- Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring and aircraft accessories. Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. Completes various servicing duties to ensure aircraft readiness.
- Supervises aircraft jacking and towing, maintains maintenance records, and may service engines and airframe components at line stations. May specialize in structural, engine repair, or modifications.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Possesses knowledge of equipment related to UH-60 aircraft and military publications, drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Must be physically capable of climbing, standing, bending, and working in tiring positions.
- Requires three years of aviation maintenance experience, with two years on rotary wing aircraft and two years on the specific MDS, within the last six years. A valid A&P license is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must meet FAA requirements if working on FAA-certified aircraft. Must provide own tools, etched with PID.
- Requires a valid driver’s license, high school diploma or GED.
Clearance Requirements:
- Must obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance and facility credentials. US citizenship is required.
Physical/Preferred Requirements:
- Frequently lifts parts up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds using mechanical aids. Performs work in hangar and outdoor environments, sometimes in extreme weather.
- Works in conditions with fumes, potential cuts, bruises, and hazards from moving vehicles. Regularly stands, uses hands, walks, reaches, and works in various tiring positions. Occasionally sits, climbs, or balances.
