Amentum is hiring Aircraft Power Plants Mechanics I for U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations. Amentum is immediately hiring qualified Aircraft Power Plants Mechanics I in support of U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA, VFA-106.
The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, ventilation, and heating systems. Responsibilities include repairing, replacing, and rebuilding aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing, and hydraulic units using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment like shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills. They read and interpret manufacturers' and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine repair methods.
Additional duties involve performing various inspections (progressive, phase, periodic, hourly, conditional, or calendar), examining reciprocating engines for cracks and leaks, listening to engines to diagnose malfunctions, inspecting jet engines and components for damage, cracks, corrosion, and wear, and testing engine operation with specialized equipment.
The mechanic replaces or repairs components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel and oil pumps, and engine gearboxes. They remove engines using hoists or forklifts, disassemble, inspect, repair or replace defective parts, and reassemble and reinstall engines. They also perform electrical wiring repairs, aircraft maintenance inspections, and general servicing tasks like flushing crankcases, cleaning filters, greasing parts, and checking brakes.
This role may include supervising aircraft jacking and towing, documenting work in maintenance records, and servicing engines and airframe components at line stations. Specializations may include structural, spare parts, or engine repair. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) license may be required.
Applicants must pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, favorable fingerprints in EQIP, and may need to complete SF-85/86 for CAC card possession. An unfavorable background check may lead to termination.
