Job description

The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation. Interpret technical documentation like blueprints and manuals to solve moderate to complex problems.
2. Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
3. Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
4. Provide own hand tools for maintenance; special tools and test equipment will be supplied by Customs.
5. Lead teams on complex aircraft-related tasks as needed.
6. Make entries in aircraft logs and records when required.
7. Prioritize workload schedules for assigned projects.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Ability to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance; US Citizenship required.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
3. Current A&P mechanic certificate.
4. Competence in repairing and maintaining airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and engines.
5. Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs.
6. Knowledge of military and general aviation aircraft logbooks.
7. Basic electrical theory knowledge.
8. Familiarity with aircraft tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
9. Proficiency in technical publications.
10. Ability to follow procedures for handling hazardous waste.
11. Proficiency in Office applications, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
12. Ability to meet deadlines and manage workflow.
13. Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

1. Physical ability to perform aircraft mechanic duties.
2. Ability to move freely within aircraft interior and unpressurized areas, meeting weight specifications.
3. Stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
4. Lift up to 50 lbs.
5. Use ear protection in noisy areas as required.
