Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for an Aircraft Mechanic 4 (LO/Structures) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This is an OCONUS (Europe) position in support of the F-35 Lightning II Program!

Job Description

Your duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Installing detail parts such as shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, and patches. Modifying major structural components such as ribs, stiffeners, longerons, straps, and skins using shop aids to facilitate assembly and installation as required.
  • Modifying composite aircraft parts and assemblies while exercising a complete knowledge of bonding practices, procedures, layouts, and understanding how to locate parts and material for exacting fit where critical surface contours, edge distances, or coordinated dimensions and tolerances to 0.005” must be established and maintained.
  • Repairing aircraft metallic and composite structural defects/damages secondary to aircraft operations and corrosion. Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, manuals, and structure repair manuals, understanding symbols, flags, and notes.
  • Utilizing precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, and standard scales. Extensive and recent experience with tools like drills, angle motors, shears, drill press, and pneumatic riveter. Familiarity with materials such as aluminum, steel, titanium, plastic, and advanced composites.
  • Verifying application/condition of installed LO materials for conformity to specifications and determining material and time required for repairs. Removing, correcting, and reinstalling as needed. Setting up and operating material testers and mixers.
  • Performing as part of a team responsible for depot level modifications and/or O-level flight line support at customer locations. Assisting in other technical disciplines as requested.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) with a minimum of 6 years of airframes/sheet metal experience.
  • Air Force 5 or 7 Level, US Navy or Marine Corps CDI, or equivalent Airframe and Power Plant (A&P).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical data.
  • Active Secret Clearance or higher (US Citizenship required).
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and program access(es) within a reasonable time.
  • Ability to support flexible work schedules, including extended shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call status 24/7.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working overhead.
  • Ability to access small, confined spaces and work in enclosed environments.
  • Ability to pass medical/respiratory evaluations for respirator clearance.
  • Must pass a New Hire Physical including a 5-year flightline physical, audiogram, and color vision testing prior to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • DoD Intermediate level sheet metal/structures/airframes experience, or equivalent industry experience.
  • F-35 structural repair/corrosion and Low Observables (LO) experience.

Salary Range: $69,800.00 - $116,400.00

The above salary range is a general guideline; actual offers depend on multiple factors including experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differentials, and bonuses. Northrop Grumman offers benefits such as health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plans, paid holidays, and PTO.
