Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic (S) to join the Maintenance Organization in Kenansville, NC. You will maintain and inspect aircraft, perform checks, and ensure airworthiness per FAA standards.

Applicants must have an FAA-licensed airframe and powerplant certificate and may need to meet residency and CDL-related prerequisites. This role requires proximity to the duty station and adherence to state safety rules.

Qualifications

Description of Work

The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, emergency response, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina. The NCFS Aviation Division is responsible for fire detection and suppression, airborne pest control detection, water quality, hazard reduction burning, and other supporting flights. The primary purpose of the NCFS Maintenance Organization is to maintain the Division’s aircraft and serve on the flight crew to assist in wildfire suppression.

Residency Requirement

Must reside within one hour of required duty station.

Duty Station Location

Duplin Hangar, 212 Airport Road, Kenansville, NC 28349. Must have a NC Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $47,703 - $83,479.

Knowledge of fixed and rotary aircraft and their repair, turbine engine repair, single and multi-engine application, and hydraulic systems.

Computer experience necessary for electronic Airworthiness (AD) and Service Bulletins (SB) search and maintenance tracking system.

Working knowledge of FARs pertaining to maintenance and logbook sign off.

Ability to perform testing and checks on all aircraft components and system required by maintenance manuals.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an FAA approved aviation maintenance technician school and one year of experience in aircraft inspection, maintenance and repair; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of valid Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license.

May require current certification by the EPA as a type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by CFR part 82, subpart F.

Required Screening and Certifications

Applicants seeking veteran's/National Guard preference should submit a copy of their Form DD-214, NGB 23A (RPAS), DD256 or NGB 22.

All Law Enforcement positions, aviation safety-sensitive positions, and positions requiring a Pilot's License or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) shall be subject to pre-employment drug testing.

All positions requiring a Commercial Driver's License shall also be subject to pre-employment DMV physicals.

Selected applicants must obtain a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) medical certificate prior to employment.

If a CDL is listed as a preference and the selected applicant has a CDL at the time of hire, then the CDL will become a requirement for the position.
