Job summary

West Star Aviation is seeking an Aircraft Maintenance Technician in California to perform mechanical tasks, troubleshoot aircraft systems, and support inspections and maintenance. You will remove/install panels, de-fuel aircraft, and assist with engine work, while operating ground support equipment in a hangar environment.

The role requires an FAA Airframe and Powerplant license, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and Airframe and Powerplant License are required.
  • A valid driver’s license and/or a valid passport is ideal.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights, holidays, weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.

  • Troubleshoot and solve aircraft system/component issues.
  • De-fuel aircraft and assist in engine removal/installations.

Responsibilities

What you can expect as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star:

Whether you are replacing or repairing parts, troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/hydraulic and pneumatic systems, or performing inspections on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world, no day is the same. What is the same is that each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Performing general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.
  • Removal and installation of panels and components.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving aircraft system/component issues.
  • De-fueling aircraft.
  • Engine removal/installations.
  • Operating ground support equipment.
  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components.
  • Aircraft movement and assistance in performance runs/taxiing.
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
  • Immediately notifying the Lead Mechanic of any problem areas such as parts, materials, workmanship, or airworthiness issues.
  • Providing the Lead Mechanic with a detailed report of work progression and open items to be included in the shift turnover log.
  • Properly tagging aircraft components, parts, and panels appropriately stored including racks by aircraft.
  • Basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
  • Willing and able to work rotating shifts including nights, holidays, weekends, and days off.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Requirements/Qualifications

Your Education:
A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License are required. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal.

Your Initiative:
We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

Your Sense of Responsibility:
Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifts 70 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Work on elevated platforms (up to 40 ft. in the air) using fall protection safety gear.
  • Work in small, restricted areas.
  • Standing for long periods of time.
Mental Requirements
  • Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
  • Work with others in a professional manner.
Supervision

Work under the supervision of assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot. Work outside during aircraft runs will occur. Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used
  • Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  • Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.
  • Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
Compensation & Benefit Information

The following information is disclosed according to state specific requirements. If the position applied to is not in a state with these requirements, the following information may not apply. The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $30.00 - $60.00. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
