Job summary

West Star Aviation is seeking an Aircraft Composite Technician to perform wet layup and prepreg repairs, using autoclave or controlled ovens in a fast-paced shop environment. You will work on layups, bonding, and curing processes with attention to quality and safety.

Ideal candidates have 0-5 years’ experience in composites, with strong tool handling skills, and the ability to follow FAA guidelines. This is a full-time, on-site role in Solon, OH with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; A&P license is welcome but not required.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Willingness to work in controlled environments and follow FAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Capable to use close tolerance measuring tools (scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges).
• Capable to use hand tools (drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, etc.).
• Ability to perform alignment/assembly using jig, templates and fixtures.
• Bagging of composite materials and curing prep.
• Operate curing equipment: autoclave or controlled ovens; maintain equipment.
• Maintain shop facilities and tooling; ensure safety and quality.
• Communicate effectively in English with team and supervisors.

What you can expect as a Composite Technician at DAS Aviation:

As Composite technician repairs parts/components by means of "Wet Layup" and "Prepreg". Some repairs must be facilitated using a clean room and cured by means of an autoclave or controlled oven. Types of Composite bonding methods utilized in repair may consist of: Co-curing, Co-bonding, secondary bonding, metal bonding, with adhesives in liquid form, and film.

You Will Be ESSENTIAL To Many FUNCTIONS Including

• Capable to use close tolerance measuring tools (i.e., scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages, etc.).
• Capable to use hand tools (i.e., drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools, etc.).
• Ability to perform alignment/assembly using jig, templates and fixtures.
• PPE must be used when cutting, grinding, blending, and sanding
• Extensive use of bagging materials
• Able to properly bag for a wide range of component shapes and styles.
• Capable of using a "Hot-Bonder" type machine cure procedure.
• Maintenance, cleaning and repair of shop facilities, equipment and tooling when required.
• Safely operate shop equipment such as: curing oven, autoclave, vacuum
• Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
• Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you:

A High school diploma or equivalent. Airframe and Powerplant License is not required, but welcome.

A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience

Journeyman: 0-5 years of experience as composite technician.

Master: 5+ years’ experience as a composite technician.
