JOB SUMMARY:

Transports patients from referral facilities and EMS to the Medical Center. Provides education to referral hospital staff, supports community outreach, delivers nursing care, performs advanced practice skills, and collaborates with medical control officers and multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care during transport. Follows North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) guidelines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with two years recent critical care pediatric/neonatal nursing experience for BCH Transport. ACLS/PALS certification and two years emergency department/ICU experience are preferred for Adult Transport roles.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

• Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire for Adult Critical Care, Adult ED
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire for Network ED, Peds ED, PICU, NICU, and other areas per unit guidelines.

• Ensure patient care standards to optimize outcomes
• Create an environment addressing psychosocial and physical needs to reduce anxiety and promote recovery
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment during transport for patients, crew, and drivers
• Practice professional conduct aligned with institutional values, ensuring quality of services
• Conserve and maximize resource utilization

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong communication skills (oral, written, listening)
• Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Subject to stressful conditions involving critically ill or injured patients, including potentially deceased or dying patients
• Potential exposure to infectious diseases
• Moderate to high noise levels
• Physically demanding transport role
• Handles emergency or crisis situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing
