Job summary

HDR is seeking an Air Quality Specialist to join our Environmental Compliance team in Madison, WI. You will review regulations, develop emission inventories and prepare permit documents while coordinating with regulatory agencies to support permitting projects.

You will analyze data, develop design options, and contribute to delivering air quality solutions on small and larger projects. Travel may be required as projects demand, and you’ll thrive in a collaborative, employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Meteorology or closely related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Review federal, state, and local regulations to provide air permit applicability determinations.
  • Analyze data provided by clients to develop air emission inventories.
  • Prepare air quality permit application documents on behalf of sources, and coordinate between clients and regulatory agencies to assist permitting projects.
  • Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of deliverable documents.
  • Perform routine technical assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures for calculating potential/actual emissions or estimating air dispersion modeled impacts.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist senior personnel on larger air quality projects.

In the role of Air Quality Specialist, we'll count on you to:
  • Review federal, state, and local regulations to provide air permit applicability determinations.
  • Analyze data provided by clients to develop air emission inventories.

  • Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of deliverable documents.
  • Perform routine technical assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures for calculating potential/actual emissions or estimating air dispersion modeled impacts.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist senior personnel on larger air quality projects.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of industry experience with consulting or other air quality related work (preference for familiarity with Clean Air Act permitting).
  • Experience with air emission calculation methodologies, state-level construction and operating permit programs, PSD, Title V, NSPS, NESHAP, MACT, and CAM regulations a plus but not required.
  • Dispersion modeling experience and/or stack testing a plus but not required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Meteorology or closely related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • May require the ability to travel
