Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree a plus.
  • Engineer‑In‑Training Certification (if applicable).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to apply science and engineering concepts to environmental challenges.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team and follow directions.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.

  • Conduct ambient air quality impact analyses using AERMOD.
  • Prepare applications for air quality permits and conduct permit applicability reviews.
  • Prepare emissions inventories and compliance certifications.
  • Create Excel-based tools to demonstrate regulatory compliance.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or related engineering or scientific discipline

Job description

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an Air Quality Engineer / Scientist to support our Air Quality and Environmental Compliance Practice in our Livonia, MI office. The successful candidate must be self-motivated with a professional attitude and a solid educational background.

As an Air Quality Engineer / Scientist, you will work on a fast- paced team of Scientists, Engineers, Project Managers, and Principals. Our close-knit culture at GZA will allow you to grow professionally. You will be mentored by seasoned professionals, who will in turn look to you to share technical knowledge and ideas. Responsibilities
  • Prepare emissions calculations for a variety of industrial, energy, and institutional emissions sources
  • Conduct ambient air quality impact analyses using USEPA’s AERMOD air dispersion modeling system
  • Prepare applications for air quality permits
  • Conduct air permit applicability reviews
  • Prepare emissions inventories and compliance certifications
  • Create Excel-based tools for demonstrating compliance with emissions-related regulatory requirements
  • Track regulatory changes related to air permitting
  • Perform field monitoring for air contaminants and noise
  • Oversee stack testing conducted by third parties
  • Conduct on-site inspections of industrial facilities to evaluate compliance with air permitting and other air quality-related requirements
  • Assessment and assistance in selection of air pollution control technologies
  • GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or related engineering or scientific discipline (master’s degree a plus)

  • Ability to apply science and engineering concepts, practices, and technologies to assist in resolving environmental challenges

  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite
