Position: Air Quality Scientist (CG04)

This role involves preparing technically sound and legally defensible analyses related to air quality, greenhouse gases, and energy, primarily for CEQA and NEPA documents such as IS, EA, EIR, or EIS. The role is approximately 85% report writing/analysis and 15% modeling. It is an on-call or part-time position with potential to become full-time.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support project managers with research, technical writing, and modeling; suggest efficiency improvements.
2. Develop defensible analyses and appendices for environmental documents.
3. Utilize approved software like CalEEMod and EMFAC to estimate emissions.
4. Quantify emission reduction potentials of mitigation measures.
5. Prepare technical reports or environmental document sections.
6. Use models such as AERMOD and HARP to evaluate emission and health impacts.
7. Create air quality policy documents, including elements for General Plans.
8. Assist in developing mitigation monitoring plans for compliance.
9. Meet project goals within scope and budget.
10. Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
11. Represent the firm's expertise in the air quality sector.

2. 2-4 years of experience in environmental services, air quality, or GHG emission modeling, including AERMOD, CalEEMod, ArcGIS.
3. Additional air permitting or assessment experience is a plus.

Work Environment

The role is remote, primarily home-based, with some travel for meetings and fieldwork, which may involve varying terrains and weather conditions.

Physical Demands

Regular talking, listening, sitting, and computer work are required. The role involves standing, stooping, walking, and reaching, with necessary vision abilities.

Salary

$60,000 - $72,500
