Your Opportunity

Stantec is hiring an Air Quality Specialist to support our Environmental Services Division and other business lines. Offering a full spectrum of services, we help clients identify, measure, and address air quality; regulatory compliance and permitting requirements; verify and quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, quantify criteria and toxic/hazardous pollutants, evaluate the impacts of climate, and assess noise. Spanning every sector, our services support both the public and private sectors across all aspects of atmospheric sciences.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of air quality and climate change consulting experience for a wide range of land uses and activities including but not limited to transportation and environmental infrastructure, energy, and urban land development. Job responsibilities include preparing environmental impact analysis documentation (California Environmental Quality Act CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act NEPA) and related technical air quality, GHG, and health risk assessment studies. Responsibilities may also include supporting proposals for atmospheric sciences scopes of work. This position offers the selected individual the ability to apply their technical and task management experience to a diverse range of projects and clients across California, as well as professional development opportunities within an established and rapidly growing consulting organization.

Your Key Responsibilities

Duties may include:

  • Prepare and manage technical air quality and GHG studies as well as air quality and GHG analysis sections of CEQA/NEPA documents.
  • Quantify criteria air pollutant and GHG emissions, pollutant concentrations, and health risks using computer models and spreadsheets.
  • Research and interpret air quality and climate change legislation and policy.
  • Prepare application packages for air permits.
  • Prepare dust control plans for South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD), and other air quality districts throughout California.
  • Support GHG emissions tracking, regulatory compliance, and strategic guidance for decarbonization of operations and reducing carbon intensity of products across industries.
  • Participation in client and/or agency project meetings related to addressing air quality.
  • Perform and manage multiple tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Maintain an 85-90% direct project utilization goal.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Practicing knowledge of air quality impact analyses, health risk assessment methodologies, air quality permitting, and GHG analyses.
  • Practicing knowledge of air quality models, including CalEEMod, EMFAC, OFFROAD, CALINE4, AERMOD, CAL3QHCR, ISCST3, and SCREEN3.
  • Ability to prepare air quality and GHG technical studies/impact analyses in support of CEQA/NEPA projects.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal air quality rules and regulations including air district regulatory programs, the federal and state Clean Air Act, and GHG regulations.
  • Dispersion modeling/Health Risk Assessment experience highly desirable.
  • Strong MS Office computer skills; advanced practice of PowerPoint, Excel, and Access desired.
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage several air quality studies/project tasks simultaneously is essential.
  • Support the preparation of air quality related proposals and scopes of work.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional air quality experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
