Schedule: Open availability required across a 24/7 operation, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates should expect an evening or overnight assignment, potentially for at least the first year.

Compensation: $80,000–$90,000 base salary; exceptional candidates may be considered up to approximately $95,000

Position Summary

A large aviation logistics organization is seeking an Air Logistics Senior Manager to provide senior operational leadership within a high-volume express operation at JFK Airport.

This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely movement of packages from aircraft through warehouse sortation and onto outbound trucks. The Senior Manager will serve as the accountable leader for an assigned shift, working closely with supervisors and managers while maintaining a highly visible presence across the operation. Approximately 80% of the role is expected to be floor‑based, with the remaining time focused on reporting, performance management, customer communication, and administrative responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has significant leadership experience within high-volume logistics, warehousing, distribution, transportation, parcel, air cargo, or a similar fast-moving operating environment and has successfully managed large teams through multiple layers of leadership.

What You’ll Do

• Own the safe, efficient, and timely performance of an assigned shift across aircraft ramp, warehouse, sortation, and outbound transportation activities
• Lead through supervisors and managers while remaining highly visible and engaged with frontline operations
• Maintain efficient cross‑dock flow and ensure packages move quickly through inbound, sortation, scanning, and outbound processes
• Respond to flight delays, truck delays, staffing challenges, equipment issues, changing volume, and other real‑time operational disruptions
• Hold leaders accountable for safety, security, quality, productivity, attendance, and customer service requirements
• Develop supervisors and managers while strengthening leadership capability, accountability, and employee engagement
• Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, performance management, counseling, conflict resolution, and employee‑relations decisions
• Monitor operational KPIs including throughput, scan performance, turnaround times, schedule adherence, and service‑level results
• Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc operational reports for senior leadership
• Complete incident, injury, and damage reporting and ensure required post‑incident procedures are followed
• Maintain compliance with applicable aviation, airport, safety, and security requirements
• Represent the operation in customer and senior‑leadership discussions when serving as the senior leader on shift

What You Bring

• Approximately 8–10 years of progressive leadership or management experience within warehousing, logistics, distribution, transportation operations, air cargo, parcel, or a similarly high-volume environment
• Several years of manager‑of‑managers experience with direct accountability for salaried supervisors or managers
• Experience managing large‑scale operations, ideally with responsibility for 100+ employees
• Practical knowledge of cross‑docking, sortation, scanning, throughput, and exception management
• Demonstrated ownership of operational KPIs, service levels, safety, labor execution, and overall shift performance
• Strong judgment and the ability to remain composed and make decisions quickly in a fast‑changing operating environment
• Hands‑on leadership style with a willingness to spend the majority of the workday in active operations
• Strong communication and executive‑presence skills with the ability to discuss operating performance with customers and senior leaders
• High attention to detail across safety, compliance, documentation, reporting, and performance metrics
• Ability and willingness to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the operation, work around aircraft and industrial equipment, and occasionally lift approximately 50–75 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within air cargo, airline ground handling, airport ramp operations, parcel, express logistics, or aviation services
• Experience leading high‑volume cross‑dock or manual‑sort distribution operations
• Familiarity with TSA, FAA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, airport badging, or airport operations requirements
• Experience managing both warehouse and transportation interfaces within the same operation
• Experience in environments where freight or packages move rapidly through inbound, sortation, and outbound operations with minimal storage
• Strong warehouse‑management, scanning, reporting, and Microsoft Office skills
• Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required when the candidate brings substantial directly relevant leadership experience
• Demonstrated ability to enter an unfamiliar operation, learn from experienced frontline leaders, and quickly translate that knowledge into measurable results
