Job summary

American StaffCorp is seeking a skilled metal fabrication specialist for day shift Monday through Friday from 6am to 4:30pm with additional overtime on Saturdays. The role requires reading engineering drawings and welding symbols, and ensuring precise layout and assembly of metal parts for welding or finishing.

Responsibilities

• Study engineering drawings, blueprints and welding symbols to plan layout and material needs.
• Lay out reference points, curves and holes on metal stock using hand tools.
• Assemble, align and fit metal parts for welding or assembly.
• Cut, bevel or shape metal with torches, grinders and press brakes.
• Perform tack welding and verify assemblies against blueprints with measuring tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Blueprint Interpretation: Study engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to plan the layout, sequence of operation, and material requirements.
• Layout and Marking: Lay out reference points, curves, and holes on metal stock using tools like scribes, compasses, soapstone, and punch tools.
• Fabrication and Fitting: Assemble, align, and fit metal parts together using jacks, turnbuckles, pry bars, and cranes to prepare them for welding or assembly.
• Cutting and Shaping: Use acetylene torches, shears, grinding tools, and press brakes to cut, bevel, or shape metal pieces.
• Tack Welding: Perform preliminary welding (tack welding) to hold parts in place before final structural welding.
• Quality Inspection: Verify finished assemblies against blueprints using measuring devices like tape measures and squares to ensure accurate fit-up.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Technical Proficiency: Ability to read blueprints and understand welding symbols.
• Tools Knowledge: Experience with oxy-fuel torches, grinders, cranes, and hand-cutting tools.
• Mathematical Skills: Basic geometry and trigonometry knowledge to calculate layout dimensions.
