Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a warehouse cargo handler in Sterling, VA to move air cargo, load/unload pallets, and prep cargo for outbound flights. You will break down import cargo, assist with dockside loading for trucks, and operate basic cargo handling equipment.

You’ll read shipment documents and ensure accurate freight counts while maintaining safe, high-noise environment procedures. The role requires physical stamina, a valid driver's license, and ability to work rotating shifts, including

Qualifications

• HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and days off.
• Ability to judge distances.
• Ability to successfully communicate with others.
• Physical ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to work in a high-noise environment.

Responsibilities

• Move air cargo within designated warehouse.

Job description

• Responsible for moving air cargo within designated warehouse.


• Load and unload cargo from pallets and containers.


• Build up cargo for outbound flights.


• Break down cargo from import flights.


• Facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo to and from semitrucks.


• May operate basic cargo handling equipment such as forklift, aircraft pallets and pallet jacks.


• Check freight for proper piece count, weight, dimensions and documents as appropriate when accepting or delivering cargo.


• May transport cargo to and from aircraft driving 3,000 lb. vehicle using depth perception to negotiate vehicle with attached carts through congested area.


• Read \"off-load\" sheets to determine destination of cargo.


• While performing aircraft push-out and/or towing functions, engage in proper specific ground to cockpit communication via hand signals and voice commands, with and without, the assistance of sight or visual aids.
