The Machine Intelligence, Neural Design (MIND) team is leading Apple-wide innovation on HW/SW co-design for efficient inference. We are looking for a highly motivated, result-oriented team player with strong background in ML/systems and hands-on experience in software development to join our team. Our mission is to advance the state-of-art in ML optimization techniques for efficient inference. Thus, the ideal candidate for this position is a researcher and engineer who will relentlessly push the existing boundary with out-of-box thinking, and materialize the idea with the very details to impact both Apple partners and research communities.

Description

1. Research and develop ML optimization techniques for efficient on-device ML
2. Materialize the ideas/concepts and demonstrate the practical value in an industrial environment
3. Work with HW/SW teams to productize the outcome of the work

Minimum Qualifications

1. 5+ years of research experience
2. Expert in Python/PyTorch programming
3. Quality publications in ML optimization (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, etc.)
4. Excellent communication and writing skills
5. MS/Ph.D. in CS/CE or related fields

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with Large-scale model training/tuning
2. Experience with processing multiple modalities (i.e., audio/vision) with Foundational Models
3. Experience with backend compilation, HW/SW co-design, and/or performance optimization
4. Experience with Jax programming
5. Understanding ML accelerations and architectures

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $197,400 and $296,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
