Job summary

Waco ISD is seeking a Paraprofessional/Support Staff Aide to assist with behavioral support on the campus. The role involves applying MTSS-based strategies, diffusing disruptive behaviors, and guiding students back to classroom activities under supervision of a campus administrator.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or college hours, plus Texas education aide certification. Strong communication and confidentiality skills are essential to support student success.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or 60 college hours or equivalent.
  • Para Professional Institute Certificate and valid Texas educational aide certificate.
  • Experience with children in a school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in instruction of social-emotional/behavioral skills under supervision.
  • De-escalate or redirect disruptive student behaviors and refocus students.
  • Prepare and maintain student records and behavior reports per policies.
  • Inform staff of special needs or intervention strategies for targeted students.
  • Participate in staff development, meetings, and campus events.
  • Supervise ISS and assist students with assignments for return to class.
  • Perform other duties aligned with MTSS guidelines.

Primary Purpose

Assist campus with behavioral support. Provide opportunity for skill development or reinforcement within a multi-tieres system of supports (MTSS), including diffusing disruptive student behavior to refocus and transition students into classroom activities. Work directly under the supervision of a campus administrator.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:
    • Associate’s degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or
    • Para Professional Institute Certificate
    • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Ability to work well with children
    • Ability to assist in behavior skill instruction
    • Ability to de-escalate or redirect unsafe or disruptive student behaviors
    • Ability to communicate effectively while maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience:

    Some experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assist in the instruction of social-emotional and/or behavioral skills contributing to a safe learning environment under direct supervision of campus administrator or designee.
  • Assist in the de-escalation of unsafe or disruptive student behaviors under direct supervision of campus administrator or designee. Facilitate student refocus on classroom activities.
  • Assist with the preparation or maintenance of student records and behavior related reports in accordance with board policies, administrative regulations, individual education plans and/or behavior intervention plans.
  • As directed by principal or designee, keep instructional staff informed of special needs or intervention strategies for students receiving targeted or individualized support.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • As directed by principal or designee, supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher to facilitate return to regular classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal in alignment with MTSS guidelines and contributing to overall campus safety.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Constant contact with students, parents and staff.
