As a Hospice Aide/ Certified Nursing Assistant, you will:
- Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
- Help the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Prepare and serve light meals.
- Assist in feeding patients when needed.
- Assist the patient in ambulation.
- Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
- Assist with certain treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and as allowed in state-specific regulations.
- Promote patient’s mental alertness through engagement in activities of interest.
- Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members.
- Report any changes in the patient’s mental or physical condition or home situation to the Registered Nurse and interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate basic care techniques to the primary caregiver.
- Practice infection control measures and standard precautions.
- Provide accurate documentation with visit itineraries.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Participate in at least one Quality Improvement activity annually, as assigned.
- Complete documentation promptly as outlined in orientation.
About You
Hospice Aide/CNA Requirements:
- Compassionate, kind, and empathetic to patients and families.
- Comfortable providing care wherever the patient calls “home”.
- Demonstrate flexibility and composure in supporting others during crises.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
- Six (6) months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatric, or oncology preferred.
- Additional relevant experience (hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, ER, critical care, etc.) is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Current CPR certification.
