Job summary

NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes in Beloit, Wisconsin, is seeking a highly collaborative software engineer to design, develop, test, and deploy internal AI-enabled applications that advance process transformation and data-driven decision making.

You will work with Process Excellence, IT, SMEs, and end users to build scalable, production-ready AI solutions, balancing security, performance, and extensibility while driving rapid development cycles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 6 years experience minimum.
  • Experience building full‑stack applications, APIs, and AI‑enabled solutions for enterprise business systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement AI-enabled applications and tools based on defined requirements—collaborating with Process Excellence, SME, End User, and IT teams.
  • Lead rapid development cycles and guide junior developers and interns in building applications using AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Evaluate and implement AI development tools, frameworks, and workflows to improve speed and quality of development.
  • Define system architectures including data models, APIs, front- and back-end structures, and AI/LLM integrations.

Position

This is a highly collaborative role responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying internal AI‑enabled software applications and tools that support organizational transformation. This role focuses on architecting, designing, and building scalable, production‑ready AI native applications as part ofbusiness process re‑engineering efforts. The position works closely with Process Excellence teams, End Users, SMEs, IT, and junior developers to rapidly build, validate, and deploy solutions that improve operational efficiency, enable data‑driven decision‑making, and support scalable growth. Successful candidates will prioritize collaboration, speed, business value and customer impact, balancing concerns around security, scalability, and extensibility.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement AI‑enabled applications and tools based on defined requirements - collaborating heavily with Process Excellence, SME, End User, and IT teams.
  • Lead rapid development cycles and guide junior developers and interns in building applications using AI‑assisted coding tools.
  • Evaluate and implement AI development tools, frameworks, and workflows to improve speed and quality of development. Manage development standards including version control, testing and deployment approaches, and documentation practices.
  • Define system architectures including data models, APIs, front‑end/back‑end structures, and AI/LLM integrations. Serve as primary interface to IT for our process re‑engineering and solutions‑focused team.
  • Participate in and lead business process re‑engineering efforts using systems engineering and lean practices, including kaizen, continuous improvement cycles, risk management, process mapping and cross‑domain functional architecture design.
Early Development

After 3 months you will:

Participate in process re‑engineering efforts, and collaboratively develop AI applications to drive the business forward.

After 6 months you will:

Lead broader software and AI system redesign efforts, coordinating with IT and other SMEs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field + 6 years experience minimum. Strong experience building full‑stack applications, APIs, and AI‑enabled solutions for enterprise business systems.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern development frameworks.
  • Familiarity with rapid development using AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude, Codex, GitHub Copilot, similar tools).
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models into applications.
  • Strong debugging, testing, and code optimization skills.
  • Strong understanding of data models, system integration, and application workflows.
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with system integration across enterprise applications (ERP, CRM, data systems, etc.).
  • Knowledge of API security, authentication (OAuth, tokens), and data flows.
  • Knowledge of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL).
  • Experience with version control systems (Git‑based workflows).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Experience deploying and maintaining production applications.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and validation practices.
  • Knowledge of application security principles and best practices.
  • Understanding of data governance, risk, and compliance considerations.
  • Experience documenting systems and maintaining development standards

Working Conditions

This role may involve working in a controlled cleanroom environment, general office setting, or specific manufacturing areas. Conditions may include:

  • Exposure to varying temperatures, both indoors (heated/air‑conditioned spaces) and outdoors
  • Noise levels range from quiet to loud, depending on the work area
  • Specific vision abilities, including near vision, visual acuity, and color discrimination

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and may include:

  • Respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and full protective clothing
  • Compliance with cleanroom gowning protocols (e.g., removal of all jewelry, including piercings)
  • Prohibition of cosmetics, fragrances (perfume, aftershave), and nail products, including polish, artificial nails, or extensions

As a radiopharmaceutical manufacturing site, radiation may be present in the laboratory and production areas. Employees in this role may be required to:

  • Follow strict radiation safety procedures
  • Participate in dosimetry monitoring and bioassay testing as part of the company protocol
  • Inform leadership of any health conditions that may affect product integrity, by cleanroom standards
