Job summary

Slalom Build is seeking a Director of AI Systems and Platforms to manage client delivery and drive technical leadership across AI/ML engagements. You will mentor engineers, architects, and data scientists while shaping complex work and production AI systems.

You will navigate client conversations, architecture decisions, and hands-on reviews to ensure high-quality outcomes and scalable, responsible AI solutions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in AI, ML, data science, or software engineering.
• 8+ years of software engineering with production services.
• 5+ years of technical leadership or people leadership.
• 2+ years designing GenAI/LLM/agentic AI systems in production.
• Strong Python and SQL coding ability.
• Deep experience with RAG, embeddings, vector/search, and guardrails.
• Experience with 2+ major cloud/data AI ecosystems.
• Experience in MLOps/LLMOps, CI/CD, IaC, monitoring.
• Proven ability to lead multi-workstream engagements.
• Ability to sell complex technical work and provide estimates.
• Expert in agentic AI/RAG or responsible AI.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex AI/ML engagements; contribute to discovery, architecture, prototypes, and production issue resolution.
• Architect and productionize AI workloads using agentic AI, RAG, and ML platforms; translate outcomes into designs and criteria.
• Develop production-grade code in Python/SQL; apply testing, version control, secure coding, and release pipelines.
• Build with AI platforms (Azure, AWS, Google), and model ecosystems (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face).
• Define MLOps practices across CI/CD, IaC, model/versioning, observability, and governance.
• Lead engagements from discovery to production launch and operational transition; ensure business outcomes.
• Own portfolio health, staffing, risks, quality, and stakeholder communication.
• Collaborate with product, data, security, and legal to ensure responsible AI adoption.
• Mentor teams, build capability, and create learning opportunities.
• Represent Slalom in client workshops, briefs, and partner forums.
