Optimum Communications Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer I with an interest in AI/ML to join our AI engineering team in the New York area. You will work on AI initiatives from prototype to production, spanning LLMs, agent systems, and automation of engineering workflows.

The role emphasizes production-ready AI systems, with familiarity in Confluent Kafka, Google Cloud, and BigQuery, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to scale innovations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 2-3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to give/receive feedback.
• Proficiency in Python and working familiarity with JavaScript, GIT, NodeJS, and SQL.
• Exposure to Confluent Kafka or similar event streaming platform with interest in Confluent tools.
• Working knowledge of SQL and cloud data warehouses; BigQuery preferred.
• Exposure to Google Cloud or other major cloud provider; interest in productionizing services on Google Cloud.
• Foundational understanding of AI/ML concepts including LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Familiarity with containers (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development and productionalization of AI-driven systems across multiple initiatives.
• Implement, test, and maintain AI application components and data pipelines.
• Build and maintain streaming and batch data pipelines using Confluent Kafka and tooling like Flink.
• Write and maintain queries and datasets in BigQuery for AI workloads.
• Create APIs and microservices supporting AI workloads.
• Support agent, tool-calling, and retrieval integrations for grounded AI responses.
• Assist with modeling/simulation including digital twins for infrastructure.
• Participate in code reviews, unit/integration tests, and CI/CD automation.
• Support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of AI services on Google Cloud.
• Follow AI best practices for ethical data handling and evaluation.
