Job description

Summary

A premier, global law firm seeks an AI Solutions Attorney to ensure its portfolio of legal AI platforms is well-managed, well-governed, and well-adopted. The attorney will manage the vendor relationships behind the firm’s legal AI platforms and provide guidance on how the firm evaluates, documents, and contracts for them.

The role sits within the AI and Knowledge Department, reporting to the Director of Practice and Client Solutions. The attorney will partner closely with the Applied AI team, which leads day-to-day platform assessment and testing, with Knowledge & Innovation attorneys, and with Information Systems and Information Security. The attorney will also advise on pilots and firmwide rollouts, working with the firm’s training teams to make sure every new tool or major feature comes with the training attorneys need.

Success in this role means the firm always knows what AI platforms it has, what they cost, how attorneys are using them, and whether they are effective. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, comfortable operating across legal, technical, and vendor relationships, and energized by close collaboration with colleagues who lead other parts of this work.

Responsibilities
Vendor and Platform Management
  • Own the relationship with each legal AI platform vendor, serving as the firm’s primary point of contact for day-to-day vendor management.
  • Track new feature releases and product roadmaps for each platform and maintain an up-to‑date inventory of the firm’s full platform portfolio, including licensing, contract terms, renewal dates, and usage rights.
  • Assist with new feature evaluation, alongside the Applied AI team.
  • Assist with contract renewal and negotiation discussions in partnership with Information Systems and the Office of the General Counsel, ensuring terms reflect the firm’s actual usage and risk tolerance.
  • Serve as the escalation point for vendor support issues, outages, and bugs, coordinating resolution between the vendor and internal stakeholders.
Governance, Security, and Compliance
  • Collaborate with Information Systems to evaluate feature releases for information security compliance and data governance.
  • Develop and maintain a shared framework with Information Systems for documenting platform evaluations, risk assessments, and approvals, in partnership with colleagues on the Applied AI team. Extend that framework across the full portfolio of applications and services Practice and Client Solutions manages.
  • Maintain a central, firmwide record of what the firm has evaluated, approved, and deployed.
  • Support periodic recertification and risk review of platforms already in production as vendor products, data practices, and firm policy evolve.
Metrics, Reporting, and Cost Management
  • Partner with Information Systems to build and maintain a reporting framework tracking usage, adoption, and cost, and provide regular reporting to leadership on platform performance and ROI.
Pilots, Deployment, and Training
  • Coordinate pilots and production deployments for new platforms, engaging relevant stakeholders across the Applied AI team, Information Systems, and practice groups to scope, test, and roll out new tools.
  • Coordinate with Professional Development and the firm’s AI training teams to create and deliver appropriate trainings for each new platform or major feature release.
  • Gather feedback from pilot groups and early adopters.
  • Collaborate closely with business professional colleagues to keep the firm’s platform portfolio well-documented and well-adopted.
Contract and Client Due Diligence Review
  • Assist in reviewing and responding to client RFPs, outside counsel guidelines (OCGs), and due diligence questionnaires (DDQs) related to the firm’s use of AI and legal technology.
  • Assist with reviewing and negotiating vendor contracts with an eye to liability provisions, data use terms and other risk-related clauses.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, with a preference for Law, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related focus.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice in any state where the firm has an office, with a preference for New York. Expected to maintain a law license in good standing throughout employment.
  • 4+ years of legal practice experience in a large law firm or comparable professional services environment. In-house experience will also be considered.
  • Experience reviewing or negotiating commercial contracts, ideally including technology or vendor agreements.
  • Experience responding to RFPs, outside counsel guidelines, or client due diligence questionnaires a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the legal AI and legal technology vendor landscape, including platforms used for drafting, research, contract analysis, and document management.
  • Comfortable working with usage data, cost metrics, and reporting tools to track platform performance and return on investment.
  • Experience or strong interest in partnering with information security and Information Systems teams on compliance and data governance reviews.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple vendor relationships and work streams at once.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the credibility and interpersonal presence to earn trust from Partners, senior attorneys, business leaders, and vendors, and the ability to write clearly and present with confidence to senior audiences.
  • Sound judgment about where AI is, and is not, the right tool. An instinct for risk, confidentiality, compliance, and quality control across both legal and business output.
  • Proven discretion in handling confidential information, and a clear understanding of the confidentiality obligations that come with practicing in a law firm.

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office attendance in accordance with the schedule set by the department. A hybrid schedule is an essential function of this role.
