Job summary

Philips is seeking a Senior Scientist for Physical AI in Cambridge, MA, to advance intelligent surgical robotics through multimodal AI methods and robust software in a regulated medical device environment.

You will collaborate with robotics, software, and clinical experts to translate research into production-grade, compliant solutions, contributing to autonomy, decision-making, and workflow intelligence for image-guided procedures.

Qualifications

• 5+ years applying AI/robotics to image-guided interventions, surgical robotics, or related tech.
• Experience with robotics foundation models, multimodal AI, LLMs, or vision models.
• Strong robotics background: model-based motion planning/control/autonomy.
• Hands-on programmer who writes clean, maintainable code and uses CI/CD.
• Able to translate research goals into milestone-driven plans, prototypes, and docs for products in regulated medical environments.
• Experience or interest in safety-bounded autonomy, uncertainty estimation, fail-safe control, or runtime monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply Physical AI for surgical robotics by combining robotics methods with multimodal models.
• Design and evaluate AI solutions for image-guided interventions and robotic applications.
• Develop algorithms and software in an FDA-regulated environment.
• Contribute to system architecture, algorithms, experimentation, validation, and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research into robust product solutions.
• Stay informed on MedTech/AI advancements and contribute to IP creation.
