Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to head AI Safety Engineering & Evaluation within Human-Centered AI.

You will shape technical direction, build and mentor a multidisciplinary team, and translate safety requirements into measurable standards guiding AI development and deployment. You will partner with ML, research, product, privacy, legal, and safety policy teams to advance automated risk identification, evaluation methodologies, and scalable safety platforms, balancing

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in software or ML engineering delivering complex production-quality systems.
• 8+ years of engineering or applied ML management experience, including leading multiple technical teams.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/ML/Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap for AI safety engineering and evaluation, building and mentoring a multidisciplinary team.
• Oversee automated, model-based evaluation approaches to assess model behavior, safety, bias, and mitigation efficacy.
• partner with ESR to integrate safety capabilities into shared evaluation platforms and scale automated processes across development and release workflows.
• Translate safety requirements into measurable criteria and communicate results to senior stakeholders to influence AI development decisions.
