Job summary

Scale AI in Texas is seeking an Area Manager within the Red Team & Safety Center to lead a contributor workforce conducting adversarial testing of frontier AI models. You will manage a portfolio of ~30–45 contributors and 2–4 Campaign Leads, owning staffing decisions and performance reviews.

You will interface with leadership, HR, IT, and EOR partners, coordinate onboarding and offboarding, and drive tool development to improve efficiency and outcomes. This onsite role reports to the Center Lead.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of AI red teaming, trust and safety, or related field.
• 1+ years of direct people management or team leadership.
• Strong organizational and workforce planning skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to give clear feedback.
• Experience with HR processes including performance management and onboarding.
• Ability to work with sensitive or graphic material across modalities.

Responsibilities

• Manage 2–4 Campaign Leads and oversee a contributor population of ~30–45.
• Own workforce allocation and staff projects based on skills and availability.
• Conduct weekly 1:1 feedback sessions and draft performance documentation.
• Take HR actions including performance improvement plans and escalations.
• Coordinate EOR admin: timecards, PTO, benefits, and partner liaison.
• Coordinate onboarding/offboarding with support staff; provide overview across campaigns.
• Provide domain guidance, policy consultation, and quality calibration.
• Identify tools and processes to improve efficiency and contributor success.
• Conduct training sessions and manage knowledge transfer.
