Perplexity is hiring an analytics engineer or data engineer to build the foundation for an AI-native data organization. You will design core data models, pipelines, semantic layers, data quality, governance, and warehouse workflows powering the company.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, data science, or related role.
• Deep SQL expertise with attention to correctness, performance, and edge cases.
• Hands-on with dbt or similar transformation framework in production.
• Pipeline ownership: built, maintained, and improved production data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Build the core data foundation - design high-quality data models, marts, and pipelines.
• Manage the data warehouse - oversee architecture, environments, permissions, performance, and cost.
• Make the warehouse AI-readable - own metadata, lineage, and retrieval patterns for AI systems.
• Own data modeling standards - define dbt patterns, dimensional modeling, tests, and reviews.
• Lead data governance - standards for access, ownership, lineage, retention, and quality.
• Build with security and privacy in mind - ensure controlled data access and AI-enabled workflows.
• Automate data quality and maintenance - AI-assisted tests, root-cause explanations, and fixes.
• Improve data team productivity - automate workflows and tooling for analysts.
• Partner across the company - translate needs to durable data systems with stakeholders.
• Shape tooling decisions - evaluate build-vs-buy and manage vendor relationships.
