AI Process Developer Intern – Spring 2027
Books-A-Million is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, and operates a family of brands that includes Books-A-Million, 2nd & Charles, Joe Muggs, and Yogurt Mountain. Our Merchandising Planning and Allocations team manages inventory and allocates product to our stores based on store ranks, forecasts, and SKU-level performance. This part-time internship (maximum 20 hours per week) is based at our Birmingham corporate office and runs January 25 – April 23, 2027. Two interns will use AI tools and our new Tableau reporting engine to automate the manual processes behind how we plan and replenish inventory.
The AI Process Developer Intern will help Merchandising move from legacy manual work to automated, data-driven processes. As the team transitions to Tableau and a Snowflake data warehouse, the intern will identify reporting and procedural tasks that are manual today and build end-to-end automation for them using AI tools such as Claude, along with Tableau. The goal is to free up significant production time for the Planning and Allocations team so they can focus on inventory decisions. This role works like a data analyst with an AI focus, in a hands-on, collaborative environment where interns contribute real tools the team will use.
At Books-A-Million, we believe in taking care of our team members, including our interns. As part of the team, you’ll enjoy:
