Outlier Ai is seeking a backend-focused engineer to help train and refine multi-step AI agents. The role involves contributing to production-ready services with clear modular separation, ensuring robust performance in live environments, and collaborating with leading AI teams on real-world workflows.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years in backend or AI automation, strong multi-language skills, and hands-on experience with SQL databases.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in backend engineering, AI automation, or complex systems integration.
• Proven ability to build and support production-ready software with modular separation (parsing, logic, reporting).
• Proficiency in at least two major programming languages (Python, JavaScript, Go, Java).
• Experience in live environments and managing multi-turn system interactions.
• Attention to detail and ability to deliver concise technical feedback on complex behavior.

Responsibilities

• Train advanced generative systems by providing human feedback for AI agents.
• Collaborate with AI organizations to teach LLMs to act as proactive multi-step agents.
• Design, coordinate, and optimize real-world architectural workflows.
• Evaluate and refine agent behavior in live scenarios to improve reliability and performance.
• Analyze outputs and provide detailed technical feedback on behavior, coordination, and execution quality.
• Identify edge-case failures including security, privacy, and prompt-injection risks.
• Support development of multi-stage agent workflows from data collection to reasoned output.

Salary: $90,000 - 130,000 per year

Requirements

• We require 2+ years of experience in backend engineering, AI automation, or complex systems integration.
• We look for a demonstrated ability to build and support production-ready software with clear modular separation, such as distinct services for parsing, logic, and reporting.
• We expect strong proficiency in at least two major programming languages, such as Python, JavaScript, Go, or Java, along with experience using SQL databases.
• We value hands‑on experience developing in live, non‑mocked environments and managing multi-turn system interactions.
• We need exceptional attention to detail and the ability to deliver concise, high-value technical feedback on complex system behavior.
• Preferred qualifications include experience designing multi-stage coordination workflows where information gathering leads to reasoned outcomes.
• We consider experience integrating agents with live tools such as Supabase, Gmail, and other APIs to solve real-world use cases a strong plus.
• Familiarity with persistent state management and session discovery using MEMORY.md to track agent progress is advantageous.
• We also value experience spotting subtle issues such as privacy leakage, authority escalation, or indirect prompt injection.
