Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior leader to own the AI Platform development team in the United States. You will hire, coach, and develop engineers while driving the platform roadmap from strategy to sprint execution.

You will participate in architecture reviews for runtime infrastructure, registries, and observability, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and reliable systems. You will set engineering standards, manage on-call practices, and communicate trade-offs to executives and engineers alike.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience as a people manager of software, platform, or infrastructure engineers
5+ years of overall software engineering experience
Track record of hiring, coaching, and retaining strong engineers
Experience leading teams through ambiguous, fast-moving priorities
Working knowledge of cloud-native architecture, including Kubernetes, managed cloud services, networking, and multi-tenancy patterns across AWS, GCP, or Azure
Ability to lead complex, multi-month platform initiatives from whiteboard to production
Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure, including model serving, inference pipelines, agentic solutions, or LLM integration patterns
Experience setting and upholding engineering standards across a team
Strong communication and written documentation skills
Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
Experience leading an internal developer platform from scratch is ideal
Familiarity with AI safety, model evaluation, and governance frameworks is ideal
Open-source contributions to platform or ML infrastructure tooling are ideal
Advanced educational degree preferred

Responsibilities

Own people leadership for the AI Platform development team, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development
Drive execution against the AI platform roadmap by translating strategic priorities into sprints and milestones
Participate in architecture discussions and design reviews for agent runtime infrastructure, tool/plugin registries, memory and context management layers, and agent observability pipelines
Set and uphold standards for code quality, reliability, on-call practices, and operational maturity
Report team progress, risks, and resourcing needs to senior stakeholders
Communicate technical trade-offs to different audiences
Advocate for team wellbeing and growth, remove blockers, and build a high-trust culture
Raise the team's technical craft through design reviews and documentation habits
Partner with AI engineering, product, cloud engineering, and technical leadership teams across the enterprise
