Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI Partnerships Lead based in the United States.

As an AI Partnerships Lead, you will build strategic relationships across the AI safety, technology, philanthropic, and political communities, helping connect these often distinct worlds. You will serve as a key liaison between external partners and internal research teams, translating stakeholder priorities into actionable research questions that can be explored through polling, surveys, and message testing. You will help shape AI-related research priorities, coordinate client engagements, and ensure findings reach the people influencing how AI is developed, funded, and governed. Working closely with senior leadership and research specialists, you will oversee projects from initial scoping through delivery and follow-up. This is an opportunity to combine relationship management, research leadership, and policy awareness in a mission-driven, collaborative environment.

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with AI safety organizations, AI policy groups, philanthropic funders, and political stakeholders.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external partners, holding regular in-person meetings in San Francisco, Washington, DC, and other relevant locations.

  • Manage partner relationships through consistent follow-up, tracking commitments and timelines, and keeping leadership informed of developments.

  • Represent the organization at industry convenings, briefings, and conferences across AI and political communities.

  • Translate partner conversations and emerging needs into clear, testable research questions, collaborating with research teams to design polls, message tests, and other studies.

  • Support leadership in evaluating and prioritizing research requests from partners and funders.

  • Present research findings to different audiences, including AI policy teams, philanthropic organizations, and political strategists, adapting communications to their needs.

  • Prepare clear and practical memos, briefings, presentations, and research summaries that make findings accessible and actionable.

  • Coordinate AI-related client engagements from initial scoping and research design through delivery and follow-up, working with research, technical, and client-facing teams.

  • Manage project scope, timelines, and client communications to ensure each engagement has clear ownership and delivers useful outcomes.

  • Lead client briefings and translate research findings into practical recommendations on AI policy, political strategy, and communications.

  • Track incoming AI-related questions, requests, and commitments across clients, funders, partners, and internal teams, ensuring responsibilities and deadlines remain clear.

  • Review research memos, presentations, and talking points with relevant teams to ensure recommendations are accurate, up to date, and tailored to each audience.

  • Help leadership coordinate priorities, identify overlapping requests, and build on existing research while respecting client confidentiality and information-sharing boundaries.

  • Map the AI safety, AI policy, and philanthropic landscape, identifying key stakeholders, emerging priorities, and opportunities for meaningful research contributions.

  • Monitor developing debates and strategic opportunities, bringing relevant insights to leadership and helping shape the broader AI research agenda.

Requirements

  • Typically 6 or more years of professional experience in politics, public policy, philanthropy, research, or the technology sector.

  • Strong understanding of both the AI safety and technology ecosystem and the Washington political and policymaking environment, with the ability to communicate effectively across both communities.

  • Hands-on experience with polling, survey research, or message testing, including the ability to formulate effective research questions and understand the strengths and limitations of different research methods.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders, funders, and organizational partners.

  • Experience leading client-facing research projects from initial scoping through delivery, working closely with researchers to turn findings into recommendations.

  • Strong listening and analytical skills, with the ability to identify stakeholders’ underlying needs and translate them into useful research or strategic guidance.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex research findings to technical, policy, and political audiences.

  • Sound judgment and discretion when managing sensitive discussions, confidential information, and relationships involving stakeholders with differing interests.

  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities, including experience coordinating multiple concurrent requests, tracking commitments, and aligning teams around priorities.

  • Self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction while maintaining reliable follow-through.

  • Genuine interest in ensuring that public perspectives inform how artificial intelligence is developed, funded, and governed.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-have Qualifications

  • Established relationships within AI safety and AI policy communities or with philanthropic funders supporting these fields.

  • Experience working at a polling firm, research organization, or data-driven political organization.

  • Previous experience in government, on Capitol Hill, or on a political campaign.

  • Background in fundraising, development, or funder relationship management.

  • Based in San Francisco, with the ability to participate regularly in in-person meetings.

Benefits

  • Annual compensation: $150,000–$200,000, depending on experience.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • 401(k) plan with employer matching.

  • 20 weeks of paid parental leave.

  • Fertility and family-building support through Maven Clinic.

  • Unlimited paid time off.

  • Remote-first working environment, with offices in New York City and Washington, DC.

  • Regular in-person team gatherings and opportunities for collaboration.

  • Frequent in-person partner meetings and regular travel between San Francisco and Washington, DC.

  • Strong preference for candidates based in San Francisco or Washington, DC, given the role’s relationship-building and travel requirements.

  • Opportunity to influence AI-related research and help ensure public perspectives reach decision-makers shaping AI policy, investment, and governance.
