Job summary

Peraton Labs is seeking an AI/ML Research Scientist to advance ML-driven analytics for fast surrogate models in modeling, simulation, and analysis. You will prototype capabilities and evaluate effectiveness within a small team, communicating results through technical papers and briefings.

The role requires MS/PhD with substantial ML and optimization experience, strong Python/C++ skills, and proficiency with Linux, Git, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• MS with 6+ years or PhD with 3+ years in CS/EE or related field.
• Expertise in ML and optimization techniques.
• Hands-on experience with ML tooling such as PyTorch, TensorFlow.
• Knowledge of LLMs and agentic AI is a plus.
• Experience with modeling, simulation and analysis.
• Experience with surrogate models is a plus.
• Strong software development in Python, C/C++.
• Proficiency with Linux, Git, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently.
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance.
• Willingness to travel to Basking Ridge, NJ ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Conduct applied research on AI/ML-driven analytics to expedite high-fidelity modeling and simulations.
• Design and implement prototypes that operationalize research into usable capabilities.
• Translate customer needs into technical approaches balancing novelty with feasibility and deployability.
• Produce high-quality technical docs, briefings, and publications.
• Maintain system hygiene: Linux development, version control, containers, reproducibility.
• Learn and integrate new tools quickly to meet evolving needs.
