Job summary

Peraton is seeking an AI/ML Research Scientist to design and prototype advanced ML-driven analytics for high-fidelity modeling, simulation, and analysis at Peraton Labs. You will work on surrogate models to reduce run times and evaluate novel AI methods.

The role emphasizes independent research, rigorous documentation, and clear results through technical briefings. Applicants should have a strong ML background, experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, and the ability to travel to Basking Ridge, NJ

Qualifications

MS degree with 6+ years of experience or PhD with 3+ years in CS/EE or related field.
Expertise in ML and optimization techniques.
Hands-on experience with ML tooling: PyTorch, TensorFlow.
Knowledge of LLMs and agentic AI is a plus.
Experience with modeling, simulation and surrogate models is a plus.
Strong Python and C/C++ software development skills; Linux, Git, Docker, Kubernetes.
Excellent written and oral communication; ability to work independently.
US Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance; travel up to 25% to NJ.

Responsibilities

Conduct applied AI/ML research to expedite high-fidelity modeling and simulations.
Design prototypes that operationalize research into usable capabilities.
Translate customer needs into technical approaches balancing novelty and feasibility.
Produce technical docs, briefings, reports, and publications.
Maintain system hygiene: Linux development, version control, containers, reproducibility.
Learn and integrate new tools quickly to keep pace with evolving needs.
