Position: Founding AI/ML Engineer (Stealth Startup)

Location: Remote (U.S.)

Type: Full-Time, Equity Heavy

About the Opportunity

We’re a high-energy, early-stage tech venture operating in stealth mode, building the next generation of AI-powered recruitment solutions. As our first AI/ML hire, you’ll be instrumental in shaping our core architecture, driving model development, and owning end-to-end AI infrastructure. This is a true “ground-floor” role: you’ll work side-by-side with the founding team, define best practices, and influence product direction from day one.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect & Build Core Models: Design, develop, and deploy novel machine learning and deep learning models (NLP, recommendation, ranking, etc.) tailored to large-scale candidate/job data.
  • End-to-End Pipeline Ownership: Build robust data ingestion, preprocessing, feature engineering, and model-serving pipelines, scalable for millions of users.
  • Research & Innovation: Explore cutting-edge AI techniques (transformer architectures, graph neural networks, contrastive learning) to continuously improve matching accuracy and user experience.
  • Collaborate on Product Roadmap: Partner with founders and product leads to translate high-level business goals into technical requirements and AI milestones.
  • Productionize & Monitor Models: Develop MLOps workflows: automated training, CI/CD pipelines, model monitoring, and A/B testing; ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Mentor & Shape Culture: Establish coding standards, review peers’ work, and create documentation for a scalable, maintainable codebase. Coach future AI hires as the team grows.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work closely with engineering, product, and design to integrate AI features seamlessly into a clean, user-friendly platform.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Track Record: 5+ years building and shipping machine learning or deep learning systems in production (preferably in fast-paced startups or R&D environments).
  • Deep Technical Expertise:
  • Strong foundations in ML algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning).
  • Hands-on experience with NLP pipelines (text embedding, intent classification, entity extraction).
  • Familiarity with recommender systems, ranking models, or graph-based architectures a plus.
  • Software Engineering Excellence:
  • Fluent in Python; proficiency with ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Hugging Face).
  • Experience designing scalable microservices (Docker/Kubernetes) and working with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Knowledge of data stores and processing frameworks (PostgreSQL, Redis, Spark, Kafka, etc.).
  • Product-Driven Mindset:
  • Ability to distill ambiguous, high-level problems into concrete ML solutions.
  • Passion for building intuitive data visualizations and dashboards to surface key metrics.
  • Thrive in an ambiguous, fast-changing environment, comfortable rolling up your sleeves and shipping features.
  • Startup DNA: bias for action, sense of ownership, and a high bar for quality.
  • Clear, concise communicator who can present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and business teams.

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in HRTech or recruiting-tech space
  • Background in signal processing, graph neural networks, or advanced recommendation techniques
  • Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and Terraform/Helm for infrastructure as code
  • Published research (papers, patents) or open-source contributions in ML/AI
