Akina, Inc. is seeking an experienced Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Engineer 2 in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.

The role focuses on designing and deploying AI/ML algorithms that solve complex business challenges while ensuring models learn, adapt, and perform reliably in production environments. The candidate will lead model architecture, data pipelines, and governance considerations, with strong programming proficiency (Python, Java, C, R) and ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow).

Qualifications

• Five years of applied ML experience in programs/contracts of similar scope.
• Master's or Ph.D. in advanced math, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science or deep learning.
• 5 additional years of ML experience with a relevant Bachelor's degree may substitute for a Master's degree.

Responsibilities

• Design, create, test, and productize AI/ML algorithms to solve business challenges.
• AI/ML models should learn and predict per business logic defined to meet customer requirements.
• Proficient in model architecture, data pipeline interaction, and metrics interpretation.
• Familiarity with application development, infrastructure management, data engineering, and data governance.
• Lead geographically diverse teams as a primary POC for AI-related matters; possess strong analytical and communication skills.
• Identify differences in data distribution that affect model performance.
• Transform and convert data science prototypes into scalable solutions.
• Verify data and model output quality.
