Job summary

American Equity is seeking an AI/ML Engineer II in Des Moines to develop, deploy, and support production ML and AI-enabled solutions. This role collaborates with data scientists, software engineers, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to translate analytical prototypes into scalable applications.

Responsibilities include building production ML pipelines, implementing MLOps practices, developing Python services and APIs, and exploring AI use cases such as retrieval-augmented

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, statistics, mathematics, information technology, or a related field.
• 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in machine learning engineering, software/data engineering.
• A postgraduate degree may substitute for part of the experience.
• Experience developing and deploying production ML or data-driven applications.
• Experience with Python development.
• Experience with cloud-based ML platforms (AWS SageMaker, Azure ML) and cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).

Responsibilities

• Develops, deploys, monitors, and supports ML models, data pipelines, and feature pipelines.
• Designs modular, reusable Python applications and APIs for ML use cases.
• Applies MLOps practices: source control, testing, CI/CD, monitoring.
• Develops AI-enabled apps including retrieval-augmented generation and enterprise search.
• Configures AI agents/workflows using enterprise platforms.
• Collaborates with data science, software engineering, data engineering, security, and DevOps teams.
• Troubleshoots production issues and ensures quality, reliability, and governance.
