Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD seeks researchers to contribute to AI/ML and data fusion initiatives. You will work with engineers and scientists on DoD mission-critical algorithms, handling end-to-end development, evaluation, and deployment support.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in a related field, possess ML/data science experience (2+ years or strong coursework), and are proficient in Python or MATLAB.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in ML/data science or strong coursework in relevant areas
  • Fluent in Python or MATLAB with ability to translate concepts into code
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance with potential for Secret clearance (US citizenship)

Responsibilities

  • Research, implement, prototype, and analyze algorithms; quantify performance and robustness
  • Interact with large data sets for training, testing, preprocessing, and manipulation
  • Prepare and present technical evaluations to diverse audiences
  • Interact with external sponsors to discuss solutions and influence decisions
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in information fusion or AI
